Two anniversaries of strong companies committed to investment in Asturias

Asturfeito celebrates 35 years with investments in the pipeline and Aleastur opens a new R&D centre on reaching half a century of existence.

The president of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, highlights the industrial ‘alloy’ of the region of Avilés, which combines tradition and innovation.

Asturian industry employs 50,000 people, after gaining 700 new jobs last year; in the region of Avilés, one out of every five people works directly for the iron and steel industry and companies in the sector are investing millions of dollars to tackle its decarbonisation. These data, which show the current strength of an economic area that has a weight of 20.5% of the Asturian GDP, have been explained this morning by the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, in the acts of celebration of the anniversaries of the companies Asturfeito, which has just reached 35 years of service, and Aleastur, which celebrates half a century. ‘They are an example of the alloy of the region of Avilés, a homogeneous mixture resulting from the combination of industrial tradition and innovation’, Barbón pointed out.

At the headquarters of Asturfeito, the president has valued the high innovative component of the company, which has managed, among other projects, to put the frame of the world’s largest telescope, located in Chile. ‘Years go by and the company does not lose its ambition to tackle new markets, expand its business and innovate in order to continue to differentiate itself’, Barbón pointed out.

Later, on the anniversary of Aleastur, the head of the Executive highlighted the successful trajectory of this Asturian company and considered that innovation explains the very strong resilience of the region of Avilés, with growing expectations of industrial development. ‘With 50 years behind it, Aleastur has managed to find the right alloy. This explains why it has customers in 80 countries, why in the middle of the pandemic it decided to open a plant in Bahrain and, in a very special way, its firm commitment to research and innovation, reflected in the CINNO’, he stressed.
